SACA - Superstition Area Cultural Alliance

Superstition Area Cultural Alliance (SACA) is a non-profit organization, formed in 2006 with the vision to create a vibrant organization that serves as a cultural hub to organize, promote and advocate culture in the Superstition Mountain region in the far east valley.  SACA defines this area to include Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Queen Creek, Superior, Globe/Miami and Florence, Arizona.

The SACA board is made up of a diverse group of community leaders whose dedication is to foster the arts in the East Valley.

GENE is an accomplished composer with over 150 compositions to his credit. He wrote, produced and conducted, "The Wager" musical that premiered at the Mesa Arts Center back in 2007. By day Gene is a financial advisor and is a partner in his own firm, AHS Financial. Gene and his wife have lived in the Apache Junction area for many years.
JOEL is a painter and sculptor. He is owner, and has lived and worked for more than 20 years at The East Side Art Center in east Mesa. His work is in the public collections of the cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa and can be seen in the collections of the Arizona State University Art Museum, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and the Tucson Art Museum.
MIKE is a freelance marketer and 25 year Arizona resident who has lived in the Gold Canyon area for the past five years. Mike has a huge passion for the arts and is a bit of an artist himself working with metal and other materials to create works of art for the beautification of the backyard landscape.
SHARON is the past President, Treasurer and Secretary of the Volunteer Center of Pinal County; co-founder and President of the Community Alliance Against Family Abuse; member of the Mesa city band,; former high school teacher and currently employed by Central Arizona College, student services. She is married with two children and Arizona resident for 17 years residing in Mesa.
SCOTT is a commercial artist with over 20 years of experience. He is the owner of DST Creative in Apache Junction, AZ. Scott writes, illustrates and publishes children's books and fine-artist and portrait artist who work in acrylics, watercolor, graphite and pen & ink. He also produces the the AJ Art Festival in Apache Junction.
TESS has been a resident of Apache Jct. since 1986 and is actively involved in her community, as well as the arts. She spends her free time as an actor with RadiOzona and Arizona Renaissance Festival, as well as a volunteer with Mesa Encore Theater and as Tutu Tessie, the clown at Children's events. Tess is also a house-paint muralist.
BOB is a retired college professor and academic dean from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.  He and his wife Dorothy live in Mountain- brook Village in Gold Canyon.  He is a member of the Board of the Gold Canyon Arts Council and sings with the Village Voices . Bob also enjoys attending art events in all their forms.   
DEBORAH is a watercolor artist living in Apache Junction with her husband John. After retiring from a 14-year banking career in New York and Florida, she started a hobby which has now become a passion for painting. She is the President of the Artists of the Superstitions, a local AJ/Gold Canyon arts organization, and loves to interact with fellow artists.

MARY is a professor of art at Arizona State University where her qualitative research is focused on multicultural teaching/learning in the inner cities. Mary's recent research involves explorations in empowering students and disenfranchised people in cyberworlds, such as, "Second Life." Mary resides with her husband in the Gold Canyon area.
